Organization FAQ
Does my organization have to be a member of United Partners for Human Services in order to qualify
for the charitable contribution preference program?
No. But you do have to complete an application and be certified eligible by UPHS.
What if we already receive a regular donation from a business and they ask us if we would qualify
the donation under this program?
Absolutely! One of the great things about this ordinance is that it rewards local businesses that
always contribute to eligible organizations. The program is not retroactive, however, so only
new donations received after March 1, 2007 will be considered.
Is my organization responsible for getting the two quotes required by the City to verify the value
of the donation(s) to us?
No. The Vendor is responsible to get the two quotes. However, if you disagree with the valuation
you are free to have it valued on your own before signing the certified commitment letter.
Once we've submitted our application, how long until we can accept donations?
Within one week after UPHS has received your application and all the required attachments and has
determined that you are eligible under the program guidelines, you will be notified by UPHS that you
are certified eligible. At that point you are considered eligible and may receive donations that
qualify under this program.
In that same email announcing your eligible status, you will also receive an email assigning you an
ID and password that will enable you to access your account. Please feel free to update your needs
and information as often as you like.
Can we solicit donations from city vendors?
Absolutely -- consider this another resource development tool.
What should we do if the Vendor only gives us one quote for the value of the donation?
Advise the Donor that you cannot complete the Contribution Verification form without two quotes
valuing the services or products. Your signature on the Verification form is verifying to the
City that you have two quotes in your files.
What does "directly provide services to residents of Tallahassee" mean?
In order to be eligible, a significant portion of an organization's efforts and resources must be utilized
in providing services directly to the citizens of Tallahassee/Leon County. Organizations whose primary
mission is not to provide direct services will not be considered eligible.
My organization is a 501c6 Association - do we qualify?
No. Only 501c3 health and human service organizations are eligible.
I don't like the ID and password that I was assigned. Can I change
them?
Yes. Just log into your account and change them.
